Who Is Involved in the Chargeback Process?

The chargeback prevention process is a structured way to settle transaction disputes if a customer is dissatisfied with their purchase. To protect revenue, companies must deploy smart payment system tracking loops.

The Banking & Dispute Process

Chargebacks are handled by the merchant’s bank, not the credit card company. When a transaction goes bad, the merchant’s bank will notify the customer of the dispute.

If the customer disputes the chargeback, they can dispute it by contacting their credit issuer to explain the situation and ask to reverse the charge.

After the dispute is resolved, the merchant’s bank sends the money back to the credit card company. The merchant then pays the money back to the customer.

1. Chargeback Fraud
Chargeback fraud occurs when someone attempts fraudulent transactions. A person may engage in fraudulent behavior by buying a product at a low price and subsequently returning it without payment, or try to pay with a stolen credit card.

2. Chargeback Disputes

A chargeback dispute happens when a customer believes that the company did not fulfill its obligations. For example, believing they were misled about product or service terms.

Merchants can prevent disputes by providing evidence of fulfilment (e.g., shipping proof) that they fulfilled their obligations.
